At Diony, we’re always amazed by the connections whisky creates. This recent visit from a whisky enthusiast we first met online reminded us just how far those connections can reach.
Over a year ago, we connected with Almos K. on Instagram. At the time, he was still living in Scotland, fully immersed in the world of whisky. He shared that he had tasted over a thousand different Scotch whiskies—exploring everything from classic single malts to hidden gems. One of our earliest conversations was about roasted malt and the use of roasted grains in Scottish distilling—something we’re pretty passionate about, too.
We joked that if he ever found himself in Canada, he’d have to drop by our little distillery. Well… a year later, he moved to Alberta for work—and true to his word, he made the journey to visit us.
Hosting him for a tasting session was an absolute blast. He even brought along a few special bottles from his personal collection—picked up in Scotland and Japan—which we tasted side-by-side with our own drams. It turned into one of those unforgettable sessions: great conversation, thoughtful comparisons, and a shared love for the craft.
Almos recently shared a review of Diony Distillery on his blog, and we were genuinely touched by how well he captured the spirit of what we’re building here. His post is thoughtful, honest, and spot-on.
Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or just beginning your whisky journey, you’re always welcome at Diony.
