This was a challenging print to capture, as the contrast between the sky and ground was quite high. However, with careful attention, Gordon was able to print it properly. He was particularly drawn to the pastel tones of the late-day clouds and sought a complementary element in the foreground.
The abandoned bins north of Raven, a small hamlet in Clearwater County, Alberta, provided the perfect answer. They lend a sense of history to the scene—a feeling he often experiences when visiting old farms in the area, where traces of rural life remain part of the landscape.
